According to madehow.com, the name marshmallow comes from the mallow plant which grows in swampy, marshy areas of Europe, North Africa and Asia. The root of this plant was originally ground into a pulp and mixed with sugar. “As far back as 2000 B.C., Egyptians were mixing the marsh mallow root with honey. The candy was reserved for the gods and royalty.”
