Bill Emerson is the second-generation President of Emerson Group, which is an employment agency in Moorestown, NJ, and the company is currently celebrating its 50th year in business.
“I’m a second-generation owner of the business,” Emerson said. “My parents started the business back in 1971 so we are celebrating our 50th year this year, it’s great. So they had purchased a franchise back in 1971… and I got into the business in 1990.”
Although Emerson originally went to school at Springfield College, MA, for a degree in exercise physiology, he made the drastic career change to take up the family business, something that not even his three (yes, three) older brothers wanted to do.
“I have three older brothers and none of them were interested at the time and I figured I’ll try it and if I like it, great, if not I’ll move on. Thirty years later, here I am. I’m still here,” he said.
Emerson Group is a company that helps other businesses with their hiring needs while also helping potential employees get hired by the right employer. Although Emerson doesn’t work directly with the hiring process that his group provides for clients, his main goal is to provide his employees with motivation as well as working on the business as a whole.
“Emerson group is a staffing and recruiting firm… I don’t get too involved in the placement process of the orders, so I work more on the operational side, strategic, visionary, for the business,” Emerson said. “But I’m still involved with employee relations and working with the team, helping them set their goals, and helping them achieve their goals.”
Overall, Emerson Group prides itself on its core values and personal touch.
“Our core purpose here at Emerson is to help others become more successful. Whether we place them or not, we want to service them with a very personal touch,” Emerson said. “Our core values are honesty and integrity, personal touch and personal attention, as well as fairness and genuine care for others… and that just comes across, and I think when people come to Emerson they feel that.”
Emerson also said that a big part of his job as president is getting involved with organizations like JerseyMan magazine.
“What I love about JerseyMan is Ken and Ashley, and the team are just so good with making introductions and they just attract a good quality of people to their organization which makes such a difference,” he said. “And then being part of that Chairman’s club allows me to get to know a handful of others, and get to know their business more. I’ve become friends with a lot of these people.”
