Philadelphia is saddened by the loss of former Philadelphia Eagles player, Irv Cross, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 81. Aside from being an NFL defensive back, he went on to become the first African American man to work full-time as a sports analyst on national television.
Cross was a two-time Pro Bowl cornerback that spent six of his nine NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Our Publisher & former Philadelphia Eagle, Ken Dunek, had some final remarks about Irv Cross. “I was thrilled to meet Irv Cross at an Eagles alumni event a few years ago, having always admired his work on The NFL Today with Brent Musburger and Phyllis George. I recently found out he was the first full time African American sports analyst in network sports history. RIP my fellow Eagle. 🦅 ”
